Broken Display?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

I managed to break the display of my Acer Aspire One some time ago and was in a hurry to get it fixed before my vacation. I was quite sure that a spare display would cost me more than I paid for the whole machine, but I was surprised positively.

After some googling I was able to find some online stores that sold displays to pretty much any notebook available. Out of these, 247 Laptop LCD Super Store was the cheapest one. A new display for my A150 was $34.49 which was actually cheaper than the shipping to Finland ($44.99). Considering the current USD-Euro exchange rate, I think this was a bargain.

Although you can order items directly through the provider’s website, I advise you to do your shopping through eBay. At least I saved some dollars doing that and at the same time I am protected by PayPal Buyer Protection.

I was very glad to notice that i didn’t have to fix the Wi-Fi drivers manually after installing the latest Ubuntu 8.10 upgrades today. The kernel version that is installed now is 2.6.27-11.31.

Wi-Fi Does Not Work? It May Be The User This Time

I spent today half a day “fixing” the Ubuntu Wi-Fi drivers of my Acer Aspire One just to notice that funny little Wi-Fi kill switch in the front. False alarm. I have to admit it, I was a bit too keen to find problems so that I could get a justification to buy a Macbook. :)
