Testing Wordmobi For Mobile Blogging

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

I’m writing also this article from my Nokia E71, but I’m not using Scribe which I briefly reviewed earlier this week. I’m testing another Python-based utility called Wordmobi .

Wordmobi and Scribe are very similar tools, but I think out of these two I will choose Wordmobi. This because:

  • Wordmobi has more useful options when writing articles (lists, Youtube links, preview)
  • Wordmobi supports images (I’ve added an image at the end of this article)
  • Wordmobi’s source code is available and has active developers)

The image should appear below. If it does, Wordmobi has passed my test and will be my preferred moblogging tool.

Testing Scribe For Mobile Blogging

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

I’m writing this article from my Nokia E71 using a client called Scribe.

Scribe is written in Python and has some issues, but is definitely a keeper if it passes this test. I will do a roadtrip in USA in September and a tool like this will enable me to keep post short updates from the road.

Writing an article like this did not take too many minutes. Authenticating to my own Wordpress installation, creating a post, writing a title, selecting a category went very smoothly. Adding HTML tags (links, paragraphs etc) from the menus helped a lot when writing the article itself.

So far, so good. Let’s see in a couple of minutes what happens when I try to post this article.

10th Anniversary of Mobile Services

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I forgot to blog about this last week, but the world’s first mobile services were launched exactly 10 years ago on Friday 19th of September. They were created for a Finnish operator called Radiolinja (nowadays known as Elisa) by a Finnish company called Wapit (please note that the current owner of wapit.com has nothing to do with this) which I was happily employed by (not back then, but a bit later in 1999-2001 when I developed these very same services further).

To celebrate this event I re-read the hilarious book (written by Mato Valtonen) which tells the story of Wapit, but more about that in another post.
